Required Minimum Distribution Suspended

On December 23, President Bush signed the Worker, Retiree, and Employer Recovery Act of 2008 (HR7327) which suspended the 2009 RMD. This law change was proposed in reaction to the significant drop in 2008 stock market returns. Waiving the RMD allows retirees to avoid the hardship of selling investments while their value is low.
